Piano: Franz von Chossy
Franz von Chossy is a German pianist, composer, and jazz piano professor at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou.
 
He was born in Munich, where he started playing the piano as a six-year-old boy. He came to know classical music through his mother, and his Ukrainian grandmother encouraged him to play folk music on the accordion. Franz studied Jazz Piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and in New York at the Manhattan School of Music, where he was taught by Kenny Barron, Garry Dial, Dave Liebman, John Taylor and Kenny Werner, among others. In New York Franz also took film composition classes with Edward Green.
He won the “Dutch Jazz Competition 2006" with his trio because of his “original, dynamic and virtuoso (inter-)performance”. Franz won the "Best Soloist" Award during the same competition for his “subtle, spatial and personal playing”. In 2009, he won 2nd prize in the international Montreux Jazz solo Piano Competition.
 
Franz von Chossy has performed in over 50 countries all over the world at some of the world’s most renowned venues. He has released four albums as a leader (three with his trio and one with his quintet), which all have been praised by the international press: “Franz von Chossy is dancing on the edges of stylistic perfection” (Süddeutsche Zeitung); "A superb mix of musical genres ranging from modern classical music to jazz which at times surprises with a tiny note of Eastern European folklore” (German Newspaper, Der Westen); 
“Hauntingly beautiful” (Bruce Lindsay, Allaboutjazz.com); “The Franz von Chossy Quintet belongs to the most fascinating and entertaining bands of the Netherlands" (Volkskrant, Tim Sprangers).
 

Bass: Chenhuai Wang
Chenhuai Wang began studying music at the age of 14, initially as a guitarist in his hometown of Tianjin, China. After graduating from high school, he entered the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy, at which point he turned to focus on jazz music and began to study double bass.
 
Chenhuai was influenced by great musicians such as Charlie Parker, Charlie Haden, John Zorn and Steve Coleman who have huge impacts on his musical career. In 2008 he started his undergraduate studies in Jazz at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen, Netherlands and graduated with a full scholarship in 2013. After graduation, he returned to Beijing in 2014 to focus on performing. In 2015 Chenhuai began his postgraduate studies in Jazz Performance at Queens College. he had studied with Antonio Hart, Ralph Peterson, Michael Moore, David Berkman, Paul Benner, Joe Martin, Dennis Mackrel, Michael Mossman, Joris Teepe, Christophe Lier, et al.
 
He had played with Erik Truffaz, Ingrid Jensen, Don Braden, Matthew Shipp, Ted Nash, Chris Washburne, Theo Croker, Kris Davis, Deborah Davis, Joe Farnsworth and so forth in the past few years.
 

Jazz Drum: Zhitong Xu
“Zhitong Xu belongs to the rare species of musician, who has not only an excellent technical level, a deep understanding of music and stylistics and artistic qualities such emotionally, passion and creativity. But he has something special, the unmistakable, his own. It is about this level of genius that makes questions about tradition versus innovation, about conventional and unorthodox, about raw versus polished simply disappeared.”-Andreas Kissenbeck (Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in Germany).
 
An imaginative and passionate talented performer, Zhitong Xu is unique among the young generation of jazz drummers. In 2018 Zhitong was invited to make an interview on the mainstream German music media - BR Klassik, which recognizes talented musicians with the potential for a major career in jazz. The audiences were deeply impressed with a unique combination of deep musical sensitivity, fearless imagination, and his spectacular virtuosity. Another highlight was his “Best Jazz Drummer Award 2018” in China. Zhitong Xu has already appeared with many of the world’s leading festivals including International Jazzwoche Burghausen in Germany, Umbria Jazz Festival in Italia, Jazz a Juan in France, Munich Jazz Fest in Germany, Saint JAZZ Cap Ferrat in France, Leverkusener Jazztage in Germany, Nine Gates Jazz Festival in China, Jz Jazz Festival in China, Meeting Jazz Festival in China, Guangzhou Jazz Festival in China, Changchun Jazz Festival in China, etc.
 
In recent years, Zhitong Xu was a prize-winner at numerous competitions including: "Best Jazz Drummer Award 2018” in China, "Junger Deutscher Jazzpreis 2017" in Germany, "Kurt Maas Jazz Award 2017" in Germany, “Odd Meter & Metric Modulation 2014” in Germany, “The Music Of Wayne Shorter 2013” in Germany etc.
 
Zhitong Xu has collaborated with renowned colleagues such as: Antonio Hart, Ernie Watts, Enrica Bacchia, Yannick Rieu, Rafal Sarnecki, Claus Reichstaller, Andreas Kissenbeck, Christian Elsässer, Konstantin Kostov, Paulo Cardoso, Andreas Kurz, Matthieu Bordenave, Florian Trübsbach, Anton Mangold, Felix Schneider, Moritz Stahl,Julian Hesse, Moritz Stahl, Kevin Sun, Jia Xia, Yue Liu, Xiaochuan Li, Nathaniel Gao, Jianyi Huang, Xiongguan Zhang etc.
 
Zhitong Xu is a graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in Germany where he received the prestigious Meisterklasse Degree in Jazz Drum Performance.
