Countertenor: Xiao Ma
 
Xiao Ma, the first countertenor in China, is a National First-class Actor, Master Supervisor and Professor at Tianjin Conservatory of Music, a winner of the Wenhua Vocal Performance Award, one of CCTV’s new top ten tenors, a selected singer of the “Oriental Voice”—Chinese Music Promotion List by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, singer-in-residence of the Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra at China Conservatory of Music, Vice Chairman of the Artistic Committee of the New York Academy of Opera, Peace Ambassador of the State of New York, USA, Innovative Talent of Ningbo’s 3315-Plan, Leading Talent of Ningbo, as well as Artistic Director & Head of Ningbo Yong Le Chamber Orchestra.
 
As the first and leading Countertenor in China, Xiao Ma has made up the blank in this field. His repertoire covers Chinese and foreign art songs, opera and musical of different styles, etc. In recent years, he also focuses on the works which combine classical and modern music elements. He has presided over the first batch of individual projects funded by the National Art Fund and key projects of Provincial Graduate Education and Teaching Reform.
 
Mr. Xiao visited more than 30 countries and regions in the world and was invited to perform in many famous international art festivals, including the second China International Youth Art Week, Liu Dehai Art Week, China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week, China-ASEAN International Music Week; New Zealand International Arts Festival; International Art Festival of Enescu, Romania; and Autumn International Art Festival in Warsaw, Poland, and so on.
 
He has collaborated with the most renowned conductors including Zheng Xiaoying, Ye Cong, Yu Feng, Lv Jia, Li Xincao, Tang Mu, Tan Lihua, Zhu Qiyuan, Xu Zhong, Fu Renchang, Liu Shun, Zhang Liang, Zhu Man, Brett Weymark, Kenneth Young, Norio Sato, Marc Taddei, Marcel Wangler, Elahiu von Erlenbach , etc.
 
Mr. Xiao does not only focus on stage performing, but also works hard as a music educator. He has published Selected Collection of Countertenor Songs (China’s first countertenor vocal music works), 21 Chinese Original Vocalises (China’s first original vocal music songs collection) and other books. He has also co-authored and published 7 albums with Universal Music (Singapore), China Tianyi Media Group, Shanghai Music Publishing House, New Zealand Atoll Records, China Records, etc.
 
In recent years, he has been interviewed by more than 50 media at home and abroad and received wide acclaim. Critics praised that he is reviving the traditional Bel Canto Countertenor in China.

 

Piano: Marco Bellei
 
Marco Bellei, an Italian music educator, pianist, conductor, and opera coach, is renowned for his profound musical scholarship and exceptional artistic achievements across multiple fields of the profession. He is currently recognized as a Foreign Expert by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China and serves as Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the Central Conservatory of Music.
 
Bellei began his operatic career in 1992, forging a long-term and close collaboration with the legendary soprano Mirella Freni, and successfully serving as artistic coach for her final two farewell stage productions. He was also the private opera coach to the celebrated tenor Luciano Pavarotti, playing an integral role in major artistic projects during the later stages of his career. At the invitation of Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge, he regularly collaborated as an artistic partner in their productions in Germany, working alongside them on operatic creations. As a contracted artist with Naxos Records, Bellei enjoyed a long-standing and in-depth collaboration with the eminent Italian conductor and Rossini specialist Alberto Zedda, jointly researching Rossini’s opera manuscripts and recording a substantial number of Rossini works.
 
With over three decades devoted to the operatic stage, Bellei has remained an active presence in the world of opera, mastering and producing hundreds of works by composers from across the globe and in multiple languages. His extensive collaborations have included Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Richard Bonynge, Riccardo Muti, Alessandro De Marchi, Riccardo Chailly, Alberto Zedda, Evelino Pidò, Daniele Gatti, Maurizio Benini, Mirella Freni, Luciano Pavarotti, Leo Nucci, Plácido Domingo, Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Flórez, Eva Mei, Sumi Jo, Luca Pisaroni, Roberto Aronica, Roberto De Candia, and others.
 
Through in-depth collaboration with numerous artists from the Golden Age of Opera, Professor Bellei has adhered to the philosophy of pursuing artistic exploration and academic research in parallel. As the only national key university among China’s arts higher education institutions, the Central Conservatory of Music invited Professor Marco Bellei, an acclaimed and distinguished expert with rich practical and teaching experience, in 2017 to further advance its “Double First-Class” development initiative. Under his leadership, the Conservatory established master’s and doctoral programs in Opera Coaching at the Department of Conducting, which is the only doctoral program in this major nationwide. Professor Bellei has systematically developed a structured training curriculum, authored professional textbooks and academic monographs, and filled academic gaps in this field in China. He is the first scholar in the world to have completed systematic works for doctoral education in Opera Coaching. To date, he has trained a large number of opera professionals serving in universities and professional opera institutions both at home and abroad, greatly promoting the cultivation of professional talents and the development of the opera industry in China. In teaching and practice, relying on the high-quality educational platform and faculty team of the Central Conservatory of Music, Professor Bellei has given full play to his interdisciplinary academic background. Serving as both conductor and Opera Coach, he has actively collaborated with faculty and students from various departments to produce and stage opera productions. Since 2017, he has successfully presented a series of high-quality classic world opera productions at the Central Conservatory of Music, including Dido and Aeneas, Gianni Schicchi, La Cenerentola, La Bohème, Così fan tutte, Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, and Don Giovanni, earning an excellent professional reputation and wide public recognition. The students have achieved remarkable professional progress, laying a solid foundation for their careers in opera. He has also made outstanding contributions to the high-quality development of opera education in China and to cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. In recognition of his modest academic dedication and outstanding professional achievements, Professor Bellei has been invited on multiple occasions to attend the National Day Reception at the Great Hall of the People. As a representative of outstanding foreign experts, he has received state-level courtesy.
