Shanghai Chinese Orchestra
Founded in 1952, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra is the first big-scale modern Chinese orchestra in China. The Orchestra plays an important role in the development of Chinese music. The Orchestra has a group of famous musicians. SHCO is also actively engaged in composition, among which many have been awarded in Shanghai Spring International Music Festival and Shanghai International Art Festival, and are also widely accepted both in China and abroad. SHCO has performed all around China and also toured to dozens of countries and regions in the world. Besides, the Orchestra often performs for the presidents and chairmen of other countries when they visit China. SHCO is frequently invited to perform in major activities at home and abroad, such as the 2006 Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, the ASEAN Summit, the 2007 special Olympic Games, the 2008 and 2010 Shanghai National Day Concert, the 2010 Shanghai EXPO Week, etc.

After more than half a century development, SCHO now turns into a large-scale integrated national orchestra embracing four voices, that is, the stringed, plucking, wind and percussion voice. Moreover, SHCO also initiates its own professional performance season, and recorded abundant national instrumental music. Meanwhile, by introducing numerous public performances, SHCO constantly makes efforts to popularize national music.

Artistic Director/Conductor: Prof. Wang Fujian
Wang Fujian, the professor of the Conducting Department of Central Conservatory of Music, is the Chairman and Artistic Director of Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, and the General Conductor and Artistic Director of China Youth Chinese Music Orchestra. Since commissioned as the director of SHCO in Sep 2005, Wang has made a series of reformation, and led the Orchestra with a long history to a new era. Under his baton, the Orchestra had its first concert season in 2006, in which some big-scale Chinese music concerts received good acceptance.
