Born into a family of music, flutist Liao Yuanyuan learned to play the piano at the age of 4. At the age of 6, she already won prizes in the junior category of some piano competitions. When she was 12, Liao started to play the flute under the instruction of his father and was admitted to the Middle School Affiliated to the Xinghai Conservatory of Music with the top grades. During her study at the Conservatory, Liao Yuanyuan successfully held her Flute Recital.
In 2002, Liao Yuanyuan went to Paris to pursue her music study at Ecole Normale Super Paris. She has since won a series of honors, including the First Prize of Flute at the 10th European Musical Contest, the First Prize at a Flute competition organized by the UNESCO in 2003, Second Prize of the Advanced Category at UFUM International Flute Competition, Second Prize of the Honorary Category at UFUM International Chamber Music Contest. First Prize of the Advanced Category at Concours Les Cles dOr in 2004, the Third Prize of the Youth Category at the National Flute Contest for Music Students held by the Educational Department of China Ministry of Culture, and the Third Prize at the Second International Competition of Young Musicians in Belgrade.
In 2005, Liao Yuanyuan was granted the Higher Education Diploma of Flute and the Higher Education Diploma of Chamber Music. She was then invited to perform in Austria with Peter Brugger, a well known Austrian pianist and pedagogue, by the mayor of Bad Goisern, Austria. The concert was highly appraised by the music circle and media in Austria. Messin Irmgard, a flute professor at the Mozart Conservatory of Music in Salzburg spoke highly of her when she took his international master class.
