Nodame Cantabile is a popular manga series by Tomoko Ninomiya. It has been serialized in Japan in the magazine Kiss since 2001. The series depicts the relationship between two aspiring classical musicians, Megumi Noda and Shinichi Chiaki. It was adapted into a live-action drama that aired in 2006 with surprisingly warm acclaim.
Born in Shanghai and regarded as one of the most successful pianists of his generation, Song Siheng is a multiple winner of numerous international competitions. At the age of 14, he won the first prize at the Beijing National Piano Competition. Soon afterwards, Song won prizes at many competitions in the UK, Ireland, France and China. Most importantly, the Grand Prize at the 61st Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition in 2004 made him the first Chinese to win the competition. The European media including Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the French newspaper Le Figaro reported this event one after another, declaring that he is a perfect, passionate, gorgeous and undisputed winner, as well as the leading role of the new generation in the world of European classical music. In May 2005, Song Siheng became the youngest Artist in Residence of the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Throughout the years, Song Siheng has toured extensively in Europe, North America, North Africa, China, Japan, and Korea, where he has collaborated with Orchestra Philharmonic de Radio France, Orchestra Nationale d’Ile de France, Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, China National Symphony Orchestra, and New Japan Philharmonic, etc.
Recently, his several CD albums were released under the labels of DG, PASSAVANT, and RADIO FRANCE to high acclaim.
